WELCOME TO OUR
RMHYC WEBSITE

From all indications, RMHYC members are thoroughly enjoying the warmer weather and taking advantages of opportunities to get out on the water. Some of our Chapters are having planned activities and those are always fun.

2008 has been also been a busy year in the political realm. Despite all the pros and cons of this years campaign news, there is something positive to report. President Bush signed the Clean Boating Act Bill that permanently exempts recreational boaters from the court imposed EPA requirements of securing a discharge permit. Several of our members were instrumental in keeping everyone posted on this legislation, and it was well worth their effort.

I have had several communications from the Bahamas Tourism office in Abaco keeping us posted on the rising fuel prices. As of August 1, diesel was over six seventy a gallon, with gasoline slightly less. Shazarrah Bootle, of Abaco Beach Resort indicates there have been no shortages, just higher prices. As updates are received, they will be posted on the RMHYC website.

Let me pass along another heads up for those planning on being in the Abacos. The 2009 Commodore’s Ball will have a Mardi Gras theme, and I know how some of our members want to be dressed in their finest costume. We also will be having a Pirates Party, and this is another opportunity to dress up. Jim Fenn has the Committees appointed and these will among the highlights of the season.

In keeping with the excitement of a presidential election year, RMHYC will be having its’ own election of officers in 2009. Candidates for the offices of Commodore, Vice Commodore, Secretary and Treasurer will be presented to the Bridge in February just prior to a vote by the general membership during the Annual General Meeting. Those wishing to be considered should contact PC Dave Bluto at rmhyc@hotmail.com.

Carolyn and I are hoping to visit with many of you in the upcoming months. We continue to enjoy these times, and appreciate the support that we have been given.

Until next time,

Robert L. Wilson
Commodore
