Miscellaneous Activity Updates and Photos

(Just a sampling of the many that we enjoy while whiling away the beautiful tropical winters of our special place in paradise)

Ladies Casual Bridge

was founded two seasons ago by Brenda Baker, of Brenda J - at Boat Harbour. Brenda lit the fire and has organized the Tuesday Bridge Games that have grown in popularity and number of players. Promises of skill sharpening abound for next year's weekly bridge games!

Several members were recently overheard saying “this group used to be really social, then we decided to take formal lessons from Rae Ann Eastwood (Grapetree), and now it has become much more serious….hum wonder what they used to do?

Mah Jongg    went viral this winter and was played three times a week with as many as five tables going at once.  Our mentors, Linda Gassmann and Linda Sussan started the epidemic last winter and it has spread like wildfire!  Now dangerously addicted, many have vowed to continue playing this summer and bring back more Mah Jongg tiles to the Abacos next season.

Even dogs can catch  the Mah Jongg virus!

Rae Ann Eastwood, graciously opened her beautiful waterfront home, "Grapetree", to RMHYC members last year and this year for  bridge lessons.  Rae Ann and Jim Eastwood live in Sunrise Harbour in Marsh Harbour and are club members. Rae Ann is Life Master, American Contract Bridge League Accredited Teacher.

Overlooking wide, sweeping views of the Sea of Abaco, at "Grapetree" many of us have enjoyed learning to better our bridge game during the winter fully taking advantage of having a life master accessible to us through the yacht club.

Group sponsor Susan Mc Daniel is an outstanding artist.. She is pictured  below displaying  some of her work.

The paintings shown in the double sets of photos were painted by some of her talented group of students.

Gardening Club    Founded by Judy Williams –Shade Mor

This is not your “garden variety” of Garden Club; rather it is becoming more like a functional vegetable farm.

Okay herbs, spices, onions and an occasional tomato is one thing, but when you enlist the services of a professional potato grower, well things are starting  to get very serious

Note the fine view of the tent donated by Charlie Dowling – Chapter Five

BOCCE BALL   -  Sponsor - Brian Beckwith

I always thought this was a game played by members of the Mafia. It seems to be somewhat of a blend of Bowling, Curling and Lawn Darts flavored with a taste of suds.
