The Annual Treasure Cay Rendezvous and Golf Tournament just keeps getting bigger and better! This year over 60 Royal Marsh Harbour Yacht Club members and guests arrived in 25 boats and from numerous land-based accommodations to participate in the weekend activities. A huge “Thank you!!” goes to Rita and Robert Wieczorek for organizing the overall event and coordinating all of the activities.
The four-day bash started on Thursday, March 5th, as Treasure Cay Marina began filling up with RMHYC boats. The docks were lively as everyone caught up with old friends and new. Pat and Tom Comber organized the evening festivities - Pizza night at The Tipsy Seagull - which was a fun, casual affair and a great kick-off for the Rendezvous.
Friday morning was sunny and hot, and the golfers gathered early to receive their team assignments. Team captains (“A” players) had been pre-assigned based on who had the lowest handicaps, and the remaining B, C and D players were drawn at random. By 9:00 a.m. the 11 teams were ready for a shot-gun start. The tournament was played in a step-aside scramble format, whereby everyone hit and then play continued from the most favorably positioned ball. This format allowed every player, regardless of skill level, to contribute to their team’s success.
The competition was close with the winning team posting a score of 73. Congratulations to the champion team of: Captain Jim Merritt, Tony Relouw, Ed Dooley and Collette Skinner. What an accomplishment!
The second place team, comprised of members Scott Atkinson (Captain), Frank Geisler III, Heather Patterson and Fran Relouw, was not far behind with a score of 77. Way to go, team!
Individual winners were also recognized for their achievements in driving the ball the farthest and placing the ball closest to the pin. These winners were:

Longest Drive, Men: Jim Merritt
Closest to the Pin, Women: Sidonia St. Germaine
Closest to the Pin, Men: Bruce McAughey
The beautiful trophies were presented to the winners at the dock during a cocktail hour catered by the Treasure Cay Marina. Not-so-beautiful (!) trophies were also presented to the team with the highest score. These “toilet bowl” awards were presented to Clark Jacobs (Captain), Helen Jacobs, Sidonia St. Germaine and Karen Jackson.
The Golf Tournament was deemed by everyone to be a great success, thanks to Rita and Robert with assistance from Lilly Jamrozinski. This event was a huge production and many hours were put into its organization. Thank you Rita, Robert and Lilly for your contributions!
Not to be outdone by the champion golfers, RMHYC champion cooks displayed their talents at a potluck event after the awards ceremony. The entire evening was coordinated by Robert and Rita Wieczorek, Heather Patterson and Lilly Jamrozinski, and kudos to all for making the day and evening memorable. The variety of food was incredible and the dishes were unique and delicious. Hail to the chefs!
Saturday dawned hot, still and humid, and many people took the opportunity to sleep in and enjoy a lazy morning around Treasure Cay. A Yard Sale and a Bahamas Craft and Farmer’s Market was in full swing near the marina, and some enjoyed a little shopping before heading to the beach. A freshening east / northeast breeze kicked up the Sea of Abaco in the afternoon, sending some indoors and others to the protection of the Marina’s swimming pool.
The host for the evening activity - Coco’s Beach Bar and Grill - made some quick adjustments and moved the party indoors and out of the wind for a delightful dinner. Guests were treated to friendly service and a lively atmosphere. After dinner entertainment was provided by some Treasure Cay RMHYC members. Their music had the whole crowd (including the wait staff) singing and swaying along. It was a fun night and the perfect end to a fabulous Rendezvous.
As is the case with any RMHYC event, it wouldn’t be possible without the support and help from the Bridge.
