What a season it has been in the Abacos! The weather has been conducive for getting out on the water and exploring, snorkeling and sailing. We have enjoyed an increasing number of new members and our social activities have been spectacular.
Our Bridge officer’s recently presented their reports at the Annual General Meeting and RMHYC continues to offer its’ members an exciting social outlet, and supporting the many cruisers that visit Marsh Harbour and to the community well.
Two new officer’s were introduced at this years AGM. Karen O’Brien has been appointed as Rear Commodore of Membership, taking the reigns from Linda Gassmann who was recognized by the membership and Bridge for her diligent and faithful service to the membership and the Bridge. Rich Fickes, has been appointed Rear Commodore of Member Benefits, assuming the position previously held by Paul Murgo. Rich is well on his way to attract a host of benefits that will be of interest to all of our members.
On a sad note, RMHYC lost a close friend recently with the passing of Charlie Murphy, a founder and our club’s first Commodore. Charlie was proud of his association with our yacht club and had served in his capacity as Commodore from 1980 until 1994. From his home in Vernon, British Columbia he served as Commodore Emeritus enjoying his retirement along with his wife Jeanne.
There is a lot more happening before most of us leave Abaco – our Sock Hop, the Barefoot Man Concert, and our annual Beach Party! Many of our members are working hard to insure this winter season will be a time to remember! Be sure and visit the RMHYC.com website and view the Photos to see what I mean and learn more regarding these upcoming events.
My sincere thanks to our Bridge members, the Committee chairpersons and all that has had a part in making this a most enjoyable season. Should you have any comments or suggestions, please send them to rmhyc@hotmail.com .
Until next time,
Robert L. Wilson, Commodore
