New Bahamas Boating Regulations Effective April 1, 2026

Beginning on April 1st, 2026 the Bahamian government has once again instituted new changes that affect recreational boats traveling to the Bahamas.  Some of the highlights are:

Changes to the fee structure and duration of the standard cruising permit.
Creation of a new "Anchoring Permit" and associated fee.
The Fishing permit formerly included with the standard cruising permit is now a separate fee and is only good for 1 month but is renewable on-line.
New requirements for vessels to be equipped with AIS transponders.

As with other changes made in the past, it is difficult to predict exactly how these changes will be interpreted and administered at the various entry points.  The rules are also subject to change by the government at any time.  We strongly advise you do your own research to determine how these new requirements will affect your winter travels.
